My friend Valerie had been on the Mudlarks Cooks River Bird Survey earlier in the morning, and after it finished, we both headed down to Kurnell for a walk in Kamay Botany Bay National Park. Big seas were forecast and that seemed a good reason to head to the coast.
We had a glorious walk. The sea was wicked! Huge waves crashed against the cliffs. We had to walk into a headwind but that was small price to pay to see such wave power.
We followed the path south from Cape Solander.
New Holland Honeyeater
Australasian Grebe
New Holland Honeyeater
Peregrine Falcon
Pelican
We didn’t walk all the way to the Cape Baily Lighthouse, but stopped a bit south of Blue Hole Hap.
This is a great section of coast to visit and walk along. The cliffs are impressive, the sculptured sandstone is incredibly beautiful and the big waves added to the atmosphere.
Many thanks to Valerie for driving down and back and for company along the walk.
