Was this going to be the beginning of the 2023 Peregrine Falcon season on the headland? I was heading out to the headland with Sue. It is always a nice place to spend some time, and even if the Peregrines were not around, then at least we could look for whales.
As we walked out, near Magic Point, we spotted a pod of Dolphins –
New Holland Honeyeaters
Humpback Whales
There seemed to be a lot of Jellyfish in the sea –
Crested Tern
White-faced Heron
Humpback Whales
Peregrine Falcon
Finally! A Peregrine Falcon appeared. It flew past the nest area, and then doubled back. It was only there for a short time, but it was special to see it again. It looks like the male.
Being a Sunday, there were a lot of people on the Headland. Here are some whale watchers on Magic Point –
In the afternoon, we had a few more grief encounters with the Peregrine Falcon –
This Australian Gannet has caught a nice fish –
From what we could see, only one Peregrine Falcon seems to be on the Headland at present. Thanks to Sue for keeping me company and helping with the spotting.
