Wises Track Walk – 29 May 2023

This was another pleasant walk with the National Parks Association of NSW, and led by Brian Everingham. The plan was to walk out along Wises Track and keep a lookout for Orchids and Birds.

In the party was Brian, Sue, Phyllis, Deb, Suzanne and myself. We all met up at the carpark near the park headquarters above the hill at Audley. While we  were gathering, I photographed some of the many birds –

Eastern Yellow Robin

The Red Wattlebird was catching insects on the wing –

Now on Wises Track. We spotted lots of Sundews, Drosera sp.

And we saw a lot of these orchids – Pterostylis daintreana –

We visited an Aboriginal site near the track. This looks like an engraving –

Sharpening grooves –

Yellow-faced Honeyeater

Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos

There would have been around 100 in the flock.

In another place we left the track to visit the Moss Gardens

Some upturned rocks indicated that reptile thieves had been operating in the area. Not good!

We then turned off along Karani Ridge.

This is “Eucalyptus luehmanniana, commonly known as the yellow top mallee ash. Restricted to the ridge tops on the Sydney sandstone” –

And a nice view at the end of the trail =

Then we walked back to the start of the track. A very pleasant day out. Thanks to Brain for organising and leading the walk, and for a lift.
