After two great days of whale watching, Sue suggested a walk along the cliffs of the eastern suburbs. We started at Vaucluse, with a visit to the Grumpy Baker, then around the corner, at Christison Park, before we got to the cliffs, a Nankeen Kestrel flew in and kept us entertained for an hour or so.
The Kestrel flew in and settled on a nearby roof.
It soon took off however.
It was being attacked by a Currawong.
The Kestrel seemed to shake the Currawong off, and it returned to the roof.
But, the Currawong was still around!
The Currawong left, and the Kestrel could now hunt. Here it has found an insect in the grass –
It was nice to watch the Nankeen Kestrel.
Now, a Noisy Miner harasses the Kestrel.
The Kestrel seemed to ignore the Noisy Miner, and eventually the pest leaves.
Now it’s a Magpie Lark that harasses the Kestrel.
The Kestrel hovers for a while, but seems to prefer the roof perch.
Now it has caught a worm –
Sue and myself then set off along the cliffs. Unfortunately the boardwalk on the section around Rosa Gully and Diamond Bay is closed and being re-built. We had to walk around the streets.
In the distance we saw whale watching boat and a whale.
The Dudley Page Reserve provided great views of the city.
We continued to Rodney Reserve. No luck spotting any Peregrine Falcons.
Grey ButcherbirdÂ
We did see a few more whales, but not as good as the past two days.
Then we caught a bus back to Bondi Junction. Thanks to Sue for suggesting this nice walk.
