Birds at Barton Park – 13 August 2026

Valerie joined me for a very pleasant afternoon visit to Barton Park to see what birds were around.

Before Valerie arrived, I photographed some Welcome Swallows in Riverine Park –

And a Galah came over –

I also spotted a distant Brown Goshawk

Next – a Royal Spoonbill flew past –

When Valerie arrived, we first went to Landing Lights Wetland. Here are some Pied Stilts

Grey Teal

Pied Stilt

We then walked down to the far end of the Spring Street Canal, and from the bridge, we spotted a Little Heron hunting for fish –

Nearby was a White Faced Heron

And then a Great Egret arrived.

Its funny how the Egret bends its head down when hunting –

It lunched down and appears to have caught small fish.

Meanwhile the Little heron was having a look –

It’s extraordinary how their necks can stretch.

The Little Heron flew off ands did the White Faced Heron.

We then noticed a lot of Galahs had taken to the air. Was a raptor around?

Yes. We spotted a raptor being harassed by a Raven

A bit later, the raptor flew a bit closer. We could see it was a Swamp Harrier.

And a few more birds back at Landing Lights Wetland.

Pied Cormorant

Little Heron

And a Red Wattlebird calling –
