Birds at Rookwood Necropolis – 26 August 2023

Simin, a local birder, had been recently observing some Scarlet Honeyeaters and other birds at Rookwood Necropolis. After the Greenway Bird Survey, she invited Lennis and myself to join her on a visit. She soon found the Scarlet Honeyeaters. And although they were high up in the trees, we managed to observe them for quite a while.

Here are some photos –

And then we observed four Scarlet Honeyeaters (all male) perched on a branch –

And then they were joined by two more!

I was so nice to see these very striking birds.

Several times, we spotted a nearby Brown Goshawk  – but none of us were able to get photos of it.

Rainbow Lorikeet

White-plumed Honeyeater

Australasian Figbird

Simin also took us to where she had recently seen some Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos. She soon found them again.

Superb Fairy-wren

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Spotted Pardalote

Many thanks to Simin for driving us to Rookwood and showing us around.
