I once again joined a party led by Brian Everingham on a walk in Royal National Park to visit the Karloo Pool and a section of Kangaroo Creek. The walk was an activity of the National Parks Association of NSW. We enjoyed beautiful walking weather and an interesting group of walkers.
In the party was Brian, Sue, Paula, Valerie, Elaine, Paul, Anna, Colin, Deb, Megan, Julie, Lynette and myself. Here we allure on the track, not far from Heathcote Station –
On the way we saw a few Aboriginal sharpening grooves –
And some flowering Bottlebrush –
The Flannel Flowers were also flowering. Here are some of the small ones (Actinotus minor)
And the large ones (Actinotus helianthi) –
Drosera sp.
We saw quite few old fertilised orchids, and also quite a few buds, but this was the only one we saw flowering – Blotched Hyacinth Orchid (Dipodium variegatum) –
And we stopped for break at the beautiful Karloo Pool –
We then set off downstream along Kangaroo Creek.
More flowering Bottlebrush –
and some very light rain –
I didn’t know Little Pied Cormorants fish in the creek.
Gymea Lily
Lace Monitor
We stopped for munch at the enormous pool. Some of the party went swimming.
Drosera sp.
Then it was time to walk back upstream to the Bottle Forest Track.
The Bottle Forest was given its name by early Surveyor Thomas Mitchell on account of all the Bottlebrush growing there.
Fringe Lily
We were soon all back at Heathcote Station. Thanks to Brian for leading the walk.
Malabar 3/11/23 – There from 9 to 5. No Peregrine action at all. In the afternoon the Female was on the cliff perch where we lay on the cliff edge to see her.
I was there, with Sue, the day before – and just posted the report.
