Forest Path and Walumurra Track – 6 November 2023

I once again joined Brian Everingham and party on a walk he was leading for the National Parks Association of NSW in Royal National Park. This time we walked around the Forest Path and then along Bola Creek, via the Walumurra Track – and continuing up the hill to the fire trail, and along that for a kilometre or so before returning back down to Bola Creek, and then back to the carpark via Lady Carrington Drive.

In the party was Brian, Valerie, Vivienne, Deb, Tania, Helen, Anna, Grant, Heather and myself.

At the carpark, we could hear the call of a Sacred Kingfisher, and we soon spotted it –

Then we set off along the Forest Path. Here are a few photos –

This orchid – Cymbidium suave was growing high in a tree –

And here is one of two Stinkhorns along the track – Aseroë rubra –

We left the Forest Path and walked ashore way along Lady Carrington Drive and then set off along the Walumurra Track.

Yellow Leek Orchid – Prasophyllum flavum

Flannel Flowers – Actinotus helianthi

Looking at the map, the Walumurra Track becomes the Wallumarra Track when it reaches the fire trail section.

Christmas Bells – Blandfordia nobilis

We had seen and heard a lot of birds all along the walk, but most seemed reluctant to pose for photos. But on the way back down the Walumurra Track, we did hear and then see some Golden Whistlers

And a Rufous Whistler

Thanks again to Brian for leading the walk, and also to Valerie for a lift down and back.
