Thirlmere Lakes Walk – 4 March 2024

I joined Brian Everingham and party from the National Parks Association of NSW for a nice walk around the lakes at Thirlmere Lakes National Park.

The walk around three of the lakes is easy and certainly very beautiful through a range of different ecosystems.

Tiger Moths

After parking at the Werri Berri Picnic Area, we set off along the road.

There was always plenty to see –

Old Pump House – used to supply water for steam trains –

Lake Couridjah

At Lake Couridjah, we left the road, and followed a track.

Lake Baraba can be reached a short way along a side track –

On their west side of the lakes, we found a lot of small orchids. Wasp Orchids – Chiloglottis sp. –

This is perhaps a fertilised one –

And this could be an Acianthus sp. orchid –

Back at the Werri Berri Picnic Area, we finished the walk and had lunch. While we were eating we spotted this Dingo (or wild dog?) –

Thanks to Brian for leading this outing, and to Roger for a lift down and back.
