Central Coast Wetlands – 7 March 2024

Sue joined me for a very pleasant day spent at the Pioneer Dairy – Central Coast Wetlands. We caught a train to Wyong, and had soon walked out to the wetland area.

We saw a good range of birds during our visit. Here are some –

Welcome Swallow

Whistling Kite

Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike

Little Wattlebird

Superb Fairy-wren

Juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle and Masked Lapwing

Willie Wagtail and Australian Raven

White-breasted Woodswallow

Juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle

Golden-headed Cisticola

Cattle Egrets

There were lottos cattle Egrets at the main pond. When they all take to the air, it’s a sign to look out for raptors. Yes – there were two – a Whistling Kite and a juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle having an altercation.

The Cattle Egrets took to the air again a bit later –

This time an adult White-bellied Sea Eagle was cruising past.

Earlier in the day we had observed a Wood Sandpiper, bit it was a long way off. Now it had come closer.

Swamp Harrier

Pied Butcherbird

Rainbow Lorikeets

The Juvenile White-bellied Sea Eagle returned.

Pelicans

Black-fronted Dotterels

Cattle Egrets

It had been a very pleasant day. Thanks to Sue for company.
