It was the week of bird surveys. I had missed the Tempe survey on Saturday as it clashed with the Bola Ck fungi survey. But I made it to the other two – the Mudlarks on the Cooks River, and then the Greenway survey the next day.
With the Mudlarks, we spotted some good birds along the River. This time the survey was the upstream loop, from the Lang Street Bridge to the Boat Harbour, then across the River to Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands, then back down on that side.
From the Lang Street Bridge we spotted these Chestnut Teals –
It was a bit moody on the River.
Here are some Little Corellas in Ewen Park – taking to a Magpie –
More Little Corellas –
Rainbow Lorikeet
A flock of Little Black Cormorants flies past –
On the far side of the River, we spot some Little Pied Cormorants drying their wings –
While an Australian Swamphen foraged nearby –
Then one of the group, Helen, spotted a shape on the far side that she thought could have been a bird. We turned our binoculars and cameras towards it, and it turned out to be a juvenile Nankeen Night Heron –
And a little further downstream, a Sacred Kingfisher was spotted –
Dusky Moorhens
Willie Wagtail, on the boom at the Boat Harbour –
A long way upstream, a Grey Teal –
Now at the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands. An Australian Swamphen –
A Dusky Moorhen chick –
Pacific Black Duck
on the way downstream, we spotted what was probably the same Sacred Kingfisher again –
Little Pied Cormorant
And back at the Lang Street Bridge, some Masked Lapwings flew past in their noisy fashion.
As usual, we finished with morning tea at Ewen Park.
