In the afternoon, I decided to visit Sydney Park. A Pacific Baza had been seen there recently, but it seemed likely that it had left, but also, an Australian Hobby had been seen at the Park that morning. So it seemed like the right time for a visit.
As soon as I walked into the Park, I spotted the Australian Hobby. It was about 30 m away on the grass.
I quickly got my camera out of my backpack and grabbed a few photos. Then, it took off an flew towards a tree.
It perched in a tree, and was then encouraged to leave by some Magpies. It then flew a fair way to the south in the Park. I could hear a distant clamour from Noisy Miners.
I then spent a fair bit of time trying to locate thew Hobby, hut had no success. I think it had probably left the Park.
There were still quite a few stinkhorns around – Pseudocolus fusiformis –
Little Black Cormorant
I was still looking for the Hobby, and I was near the Frog Pond, when I heard a kerfuffle. I thought – that could be due to the Hobby being perched in one of the nearby trees. After some looking, I spotted two Brush Turkeys. The first I have seen in the Park
A few more birds –
Little Pied Cormorant
White-faced Heron
And then three Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos flew past. Here is one of them –
Little Pied Cormorant
White-faced Heron
Australasian Grebe
Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos
White-faced Heron
On my visit, I didn’t see that many birds, but three of the species are new to me in Sydney Park – The Australian Hobby, the two Brush Turkeys and the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos.
