Taronga Zoo – 5 July 2024

I joined Sue for a day at Taronga Zoo. It had been a while since our last visit, and the new Reptile and Amphibian House was now finally open. We had a great day.

There were also some new baby animals to see.

We travelled to the Zoo by ferry and arrived a little after it opened at 9:30 am. We walked down towards the new Reptile and Amphibian House via the Australian animals –

We then went through the Blue Mountains Bushwalk section –

And we spent a fair bit of time in the new aviary just below the Blue Mountains section. This is a great place for a bird photographer.

Next we wanted to see the baby wombat. So we headed to the kids section.

The baby was sleeping next to its mother.

But we waited a while, and the mother woke up and moved away.

Allowing us to see the baby –

And now our eyes were used to the dark, and we could see the Bird Eating Spider.

Then we did make the new Reptile and Amphibian House.

We thought it was good, but we came back later to see if some of the animals were more active.

We then went to see the Lions, via the Fennec Fox

Most of the lions were asleep.

It looks like there Elephants will be leaving the zoo soon.

And here is the mother Pygmy Hippo –

and its baby –

Then some more babies – the three Red Panda babies. They were all active, playing together.

Then to the Nocturnal House –

And back to the Reptile and Amphibian House –

We finished with the 3pm Bird Show –

There was a Barn Owl replacing the Barking Owl –

It had been a most enjoyable day. Thanks to Sue for great company.
