Birds at Barton Park – 27 July 2024

It was the Saturday for the Greenway Bird Survey, and in the early morning, I walked over to Waratah Mills Light Rail Station, but on the way it started raining. And meeting with the others, the rain persisted , so we sheltered under cover at the station. Looking at the rain radar, it looked like the rain had set in, so we decided to cancel the survey and head for a coffee. But later that afternoon, the rain ended and the weather looked a lot better, so I decided to visit Barton Park for some birding.

The vast turned out to be quite good, although I did miss some nice birds.

Here is a White-faced Heron hunting in Riverine Park –

At the Landing Lights Wetland, here are some Chestnut Teals

And a White-faced Heron-

The Pied Stilts were back, Here is one of the 13 I counted –

Around the hinterland, a Superb Fairy-wren

Red-browed Finch

Down the end of the Spring St Canal, I saw this Striated Heron fly past –

Superb Fairy-wren

Walking back, I spotted a Grey Goshawk

I saw where it perched –

And then it moved to the top of the sewer vent near the wetlands –

It flew back along the canal, so I followed it.

Then it flew off leaving the area –

Great Egret

Yellow Thornbill

Silvereye

Royal Spoonbill

Little Black Cormorant

Pied Stilt

White-faced Heron

I talked to a two birders that were also there, and they had spotted a Hobby at the Market Gardens and an Osprey flying down Muddy Creek. I looked around for those birds but could not spot them. But it had been a pleasant visit.
