It was time for another visit to Malabar Headland. I met up with Sue at Maroubra Beach and we then walked out onto the Headland.
We had a very pleasant day, but the Peregrine Falcon action was a bit limited.
We scanned the cliffs carefully with binoculars, but could not spot any perched Peregrine Falcons, so we sat down in a sunny sheltered spot to wait. Below,. we spotted a seal –
It then caught a fish –
About 11:30 am a Peregrine falcon did fly past at high speed, and then it flew far out to sea.
Some more passing birds –
White-faced Heron
Australasian Gannet
Distant Humpback Whale –
Another photographer, Roscoe arrived, and while we were chatting, he spotted a White-belled Sea Eagle –
And a long way out, we spotted a Humpback Whale do a series of breaches –
And then we saw an enormous bait ball –
Crested Tern
And then to our delight, a large Humpback Whale swam by. it was accompanied by a very tiny calf.
Australasian Gannet
Pacific Black Duck
Pelican
Then another raptor appeared. It was a Black-shouldered Kite –
We had to wait to 3:30 pm for some Peregrine Falcon action. One appeared with the remains of some prey.
This bird landed out of sight along the cliffs. We then spotted a second Peregrine Falcon perched on the cliffs nearby. We speculated that this one had flown in and given the remainder of the prey to its mate.
Another Humpback Whale and calf –
Roscoe in action –
It was time to go. But nearby, we stopped to photograph a Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo feeding on Banksia –
It had been another great day experiencing Nature.
