This was a full day, starting off at Sydney Park, and then visiting Malabar Headland to photograph the Peregrine Falcons.

Many years ago (1970’s – 80’s) I was an active member of the Kameruka Bushwalking Club, and I was pleased to be able to attend a reunion held at Blackheath. I have outlined some of the highlights of this club’s activities in an earlier post when I attended the 2014 reunion.
The current reunion was delayed due to Covid lockdowns, and it was great to see it finally go ahead. Much of the credit to organising it goes to Barry and Jenny Dunnett who did a lot of the groundwork from their home in New Zealand. Continue reading
On the way home from Royal National Park, I stopped off at St Peters and made quick visit to Sydney Park. I wanted to have another look for the Powerful Owl. This time I had success.

Another nice walk organised and led by Brian Everingham for the National Parks Association of NSW. Then plan was to catch the ferry to Bundeena and then walk along Jibbon Beach, around the headland, and then continue on the track that leads to The Coastal Track where it starts.
Early in the morning, it had been raining. Quite heavily. But while we were on the walk, the weather was quite reasonable. Only short time with very light rain and then later a period of Sun. This meant a very pleasant walk.

I spent a nice day visiting two local sites. I started at Sydney Park and then caught a bus down the road to Barton Park.
My main aim Sydney Park was to try and spot a Powerful Owl that had been roosting there recently. I did not manage to find the owl, but in he process of looking for it, I did spot a Tawny Frogmouth on its nest. Continue reading
It was beautiful weather and I was keen to head outdoors, so I decided to catch a train to Cronulla and then a bus to Kurnell and visit Kamay – Botany Bay National Park. My plan was open – to walk to Cape Solander via the Yena Track, then walk south along the coastal cliffs. If I felt like it I would continue to Cronulla, or I could walk back to the bus stop at Kurnell.
It was so nice, once I was on the cliffs, that I decided that I should maximise my time there – so I walked south to Doughboy Head and returned the same way.
The Flannel Flowers were stunning. Some of the best displays I have seen I think (OK – no where near as stunning as the display of pink Flannel Flowers back in early 2021). The white Flannel Flowers always seem to attract a range of insects. Continue reading
I spent another nice day at Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside.
On these visits, I always aim to find and photograph the Azure Kingfishers. But again, I missed spotting them despite a lot of looking. I did see a pair of Sacred Kingfishers, and a lot of other nice birds. But I did not see many small birds this time, and I did see quite a few turtles. Continue reading
Another visit to Malabar Headland – with the principal aim to photograph the local Peregrine Falcons, and also to look for whales and other sea life. This time I was accompanied by Valerie and Sue.

This was a nice day out in the Upper Blue Mountains – looking for heritage sites. The party was Bob, Doug, Pete and myself.
During the day we examined a most interesting Aboriginal site – an occupation shelter, which had ochre and charcoal art, as well as a curious rock engraving, and lots of stone tools. We also looked at the remains of two old buildings. And the wild flowers and scenery were also impressive. Continue reading
After the Mudlarks bird survey, I went looking for a Tawny Frogmouth on its nest in Ewen Park. After finding it, I headed to Permanent Avenue and caught a bus to Bexley North. From there, I made my way down the Two Valleys Track to The Cooks River, and then walked upstream to Illawarra Road.
