Day 102 of Lockdown. I decided on another visit to Barton Park. I decided this time to travel to Baron Park by bus, and that would allow me to walk home via the Cooks River.

Day 101 of Lockdown. This was another enjoyable and interesting day of bird watching and photography at two venues – first Sydney Park and then along the Cooks River between Canterbury Station and Wardell Road.
At Sydney Park, I met up with Valerie and Sue. I had encouraged them to visit the park to see the baby Buff-banded Rails that I have seen a few days earlier. As it turned out, we spotted no Rails at all – adults or chicks. It seems that they have moved. But we did see a lot of other nice birds. Continue reading
Day 100 of Lockdown. Digi Dave and myself had planned a boat trip along the Cooks River. He would travel by his Sea Kayak and I would use my packraft.

We had planned to meet at the new pontoon near the Lang Street Bridge. While waiting for Digi, I paddled up to the Boat Harbour and back. The tide was going down – and I found it much easier to paddle downstream. Continue reading
Day 99 of Lockdown. I thought it was time for another walk down Wolli Creek – along the Two Valleys Track. I caught a bus to Bexley North and started walking down the track.
As usual I took camera with me, and along the way I found quite a few birds, orchids and other things to photograph. Continue reading
Day 98 of Lockdown. Another visit to Barton Park. Again, this visit was by bike via the Cooks River Cycleway.
On the way down the Cooks River, I was on the lookout for Sacred Kingfishers. But I didn’t manage to spot any. I think, perhaps, that they have returned to their summer breeding areas. Near Illawarra Road, I did spot a Striated Heron. Continue reading
Day 97 of Lockdown. This was another very good day of bird watching and photography. I spent the morning at Sydney Park, then caught a bus down to Barton Park for an afternoon visit. I then walked back via the Cooks River.
On previous visits to Sydney Park I had been fortunate to observe the Rails – both Buff-banded Rails and Lewin’s Rails. I had recently heard that a pair of Buff-banded Rails had newly hatched chicks. I went hoping to observe them. I did! You can see one, out of focus, in the photo above, standing close to a parent as it forages. Continue reading
Day 96 of Lockdown. I have visited Barton Park a lot during the lockdown and it has been a rewarding place to visit for bird photography. This was probably the best day of bird photography I have undertaken there. The last 20 minutes of my visit were particularly good.

Day 94 of lockdown. After the great session of bird photography at Barton Park, the day before, I decided to return for some more. But would the same birds be around?
The previous day, I had good encounters with two raptors – an Osprey and a Grey Goshawk. On this visit I did see both of these birds and more. Again, I travelled there by bike. Continue reading
After the Greenway Bird Survey, I headed home for an early lunch, then cycled out to Barton Park for some more birds photography. With the lockdown limiting travel for exercise or recreation to 5 km from home, Barton Park has been one of the best places for bird watching and photography.
When I arrived, I first went down to the end of the Spring St Canal and looked into Muddy Creek to see if the Osprey was around. No sigh of it there, but when I headed back to the Landing Lights Wetland, I saw it perched on top of a sewer vent. Continue reading
