I was keen to get out again after the early morning Greenway bird survey, so In the afternoon I caught a bus down Canterbury Road to the the Cooks River, then set off downstream with my camera.

I joined the local birders for the monthly bird survey along the Dulwich Hill section of The Greenway.
We saw quite a number of birds, but I was not able to photograph them. I missed a Brown Goshawk and a Channel-billed Cuckoo. But here are some birds I did photograph –

Sue and myself had been to Sculpture By The Sea. Since we had arrived there before sunrise, it was quite early when we left. We travelled back to Bondi Junction, then caught the 350 bus to Maroubra Beach. Before setting out into the National Park, we had breakfast at a cafe in the main street.
Our main aim was to see the resident Peregrine Falcons and check on their nesting progress. But when you visit Malabar Headland National Park, you often experience a lot more.

I met Sue very early in the morning at Bondi Junction, and we travelled by bus to Bondi Beach in time for sunrise. We were visiting Sculpture By The Sea.
But, when we arrived, there was no sunrise. There was a large could bank in the eastern horizon. And was it quiet? No. There were hundred of coastal runners on the path.

Both Bob and myself were keen to visit some more Aboriginal art sites near the Putty Road. On this day, we visited two art sites and also two sites featuring sharpening grooves.
The first site we visited was not too far from the road, and sounded interesting. It was large rock outcrop that had engravings and also there was a small overhang under one side of the outcrop that had some more art. Continue reading

I was keen to try out the new Mariyung Trains now they have started running on the Blue Mountains line. So I caught one leaving Central at 8:56 and went as far as Hazelbrook, where I visited my sister and her husband, and then travelled back down on an old V Set train.

When there is a family of newly fledged Peregrine Falcons, it is worth several trips to visit them for photography, because as they get older, they fly further away from the nest area and can be hard to spot.
In this family, there are three chicks. They only learnt to fly about a week earlier.

I had not done that much walking in Bouddi National Park. I have done two walks to Maitland Bay (as far as I can recall). The most recent was ten years ago in 2015. On that trip, and the much earlier one, we had walked to the beach from the north. I was keen to see what the scenery was like on the walk from the south – from itty Beach to Maitland Bay. Bob also had not done very much walking in the Park, and he was happy with that choice.
A warm day was forecast, so rather than do a loop walk via the tops, we thought it more sensible to walk out and back the same way. Continue reading
A few days earlier, I had travelled to the Northern Beaches and spent the morning at the sea cliffs and then the afternoon at Long Reef. I thought after that trip, it would have been better to spend all the day at the sea cliffs. So I remedied that by a second visit just to the sea cliffs.
On the previous visit, I had observed one chick. I don’t know whether it could fly or not.
