Malabar Headland Visit – 5 September 2025

I decided to visit Malabar Headland while the weather was good.

I had a reasonable day, although it was very quiet for long periods. But at least in nice weather, it was pleasant to sit to on the cliffs enjoying the scenery.

When I first walked in, I soon spotted a single Peregrine Falcon perched on the cliffs near Boora Point. The photo below is telephoto and it is hard to spot the falcon – in the middle. That is one reason it is always worth taking binoculars on these trips. Continue reading

Nurragingy Reserve Visit – 4 September 2025

It was time for another visit to Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside. My last visit had been in late July.

I was by myself this time, and wandered around the usual trails seeing what birds were around. I spent a fair bit of time looking for Azure Kingfishers, but on this visit I had no luck. But I did see a good range of other birds.

Here are some – Continue reading

Birds at Long Reef – 3 September 2025

I decided on another trip to Long Reef. More Osprey photography.

When I arrived, I walked down to the lower level from the lookout, and spotted two Osprey perched in trees on the north side. I walked along the beach towards them.

When I got close, I could see that there were actually three Ospreys perched in trees. Continue reading

Aboriginal Art near the Putty Road – 2 September 2025

Bob and myself had been investigating some Aboriginal art sites near the Putty Road. I had visited a very good site back in 2017 and was keen to see it again. So we visited that site first, then visited a number of other sites.

The first site is very impressive with a wide range of art.

As you approach the cave, it does not look too special. Continue reading

Birds at Terrys Creek – 30 August 2025

After seeing a Powerful Owl family at Cheltenham a few days earlier, I thought it worth heading to Terrys Creek to see if I could spit any newly fledged Powerful Owlets there. I had no luck spotting Powerful Owls despite a lot of looking in places where I had seen them roosting before, but I did see some other nice birds.

I walked from Epping Road down to Browns Waterhole and back.

Here are some of the birds I saw – Continue reading

I decided to visit Sydney Park to see what birds were around. It turned out to be very quiet while I was there. Despite a lot of looking, I did not find too many birds.

Bob, kew roughly where to look, and he soon spotted an adult – Continue reading

More Aboriginal Art on Kings Tableland – 28 August 2025

Both Bob and myself were keen to check out some more Aboriginal art sites on Kings Tableland.

I had been to all of these sites before, and Bob had been to most of them, but we wanted to have a more thorough look, as we had missed some art earlier.

The first spot we visited were series of small overhangs. These featured a variety of art. Continue reading
