Crystal Pools Canyon – 7 February 2025

Bob was back from an overseas holiday, so we could resume our regular outdoor activities. With hot weather forecast, as decided to head out to the western edge of the Wollangambe Wilderness and visit Crystal Pools Canyon.

The canyon lies in a small tributary, high up of the South Branch of Bungleboori Creek. The fire roads that pass close to the canyon are now quite rough, and we ended up walking the last two kilometres.

On the way, we had good views of the pagodas –

And we could look in to our creek –

We left the fire road, and followed an easy ramp down to the creek.

Once in the creek, we had to walk downstream a few hundred metres to the start of the canyon. It started with a very short abseil –

The nest abseil was off a cantilevered log –

There were indeed some nice pools.

The canyon here was pleasant rather than dark and deep.

And we soon reached the next abseil –

It was another short drop into shallow pool.

The last drop was perhaps the best –

We climbed out soon after and some easy scrambling took us back to the fire road. And then a hot, but short walk back to Bob’s car.

It had been a pleasant day.
