Tempe Bird Survey and Cooks River Birds – 8 February 2025

I joined the Tempe Birdos for their monthly bird survey. This time I was in the group surveying at Tempe Wetlands.

Here are some birds in the ponds and hinterland –

Australasian Grebe

Chestnut Teal

Little Pied Cormorant

Olive-backed Oriole

Pacific Black Duck

Dusky Moorhens

Red Wattlebird

Australian Swamphen

A poor photo of a Pacific Koel

Australasian Figbird

Walking to Tempe Reserve for morning tea, with the other group, we spotted a Peregrine Falcon perched on top of the Tempe Water Tower –

After a very pleasant morning tea and a chat with the others in the group, I walked up the Cooks River to Canterbury Road. Here are some birds I saw along the way –

Little Pied Cormorant

At Gough Whitlam Park, I bumped into Michael a fellow bird photographer. I later saw him pointing his camera into a tree. It was a juvenile Channel-billed Cuckoo, and it was calling for food.

I spotted a Sacred Kingfisher, but was not able to get any photos.

Little Corellas

Tawny Frogmouths at the cricket nets –

Little Black Cormorant

Great Cormorant

It had caught, what looks like an eel.

I think the eel escaped.

It had been a good morning.
