Brian Everingham had organised a walk, for the National Parks Association of NSW, through Sydney to look at various sculptures. This was a good way of getting to know some of the cultural heritage of the city.
We met at Martin Place, and our first stop was to lookout this work by Lindy Lee –
And being Martin Place, we also looked at the statue of Sir James Martin, former high court judge and Prime Minister of NSW.
This Mobius Strip lies in Martin Place Station –
More interior art –
This sculpture is Sleeping Jesus –
And then to Hyde Park, but stopping to admire Queen Victoria –
At Hyde Park we spent some time at The Archibald Fountain –
William Bede Dalley – “Scholar, Patriot, Statesman” –
Then we went to the Catholic Cathedral and baby Jesus with him mom –
Mary McKillop who later became a saint –
And the dashing figure of Pope John Paul the Great –
I noted the cathedral tower is fitted with lightning arrestors to protect it from acts of God.
Heading towards the Art Gallery, we passed Robbie Burns –
The Art Gallery entrance is flanked by two sculptures – Peace and War –
And there is this artwork –
More inside –
At the new Art Gallery building –
Captain Cook sculpture –
A storm was approaching, as we made our way through the Botanic Gardens –
Leaving the Gardens, we passed Governor Phillip –
And outside the library, Governor Bourke –
And we finished with Trim the Cat and Matthew Flinders –
Many thanks to Brian for organising the walk.
