Cooks River Birds – 2 April 2025

I had a short trip along part of the Cooks River – from Illawarra Road to Gough Whitlam Park and back the same way. I took my camera and was on the lookout for birds.

Here are some that I saw along the way –

White-faced Heron

I looked for the Striated Heron chicks that I had seen on recent previous trips, but it looks like they ave now left the nest area. A bit further along I spotted an adult Striated Heron busy fishing –

It was doing very well catching small fish. Perhaps it was filling its crop ready to feed the chicks?

Further along, I spotted this Little Black Cormorant

Willie Wagtail

Magpie Lark

A Noisy Miner came along to harass the Willie Wagtail

I could not find the Tawny Frogmouths in Gough Whitlam Park.

Walking back upstream, the Striated Heron was still fishing –

And another Little Black Cormorant

I did not spot any Sacred Kingfishers this visit.
