This was a short walk along a very nice section of the Coastal Walkway between Bronte and Maroubra in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
I got up early and caught a train to Bondi Junction and then walked down to Bronte in time for sunrise (about 6:45 am). At the beach at that time in the morning were a few other photographers, a lot of runners and a lot of people in boot camps behind the beach in the park.
With virtually no clouds the sunrise was nothing special, but the big seas were. Huge waves were crashing on the cliffs north of the beach. Very impressive. I watched and photographed the waves for well over and hour.
A few surf board riders were also enjoying the big waves.
I then slowly made my way south. It is nice walking along the Coastal Walkway – past Waverley Cemetery and towards Clovelly. The walkway is popular wth runners, walkers and dogs taking their owners for a morning walk. It offers great views of the cliffs along the coast here.
The big seas continued past Clovelly to Coogee and Maroubra. It was impossible not to stop and take photographs of the sea.
Near Coogee I stopped and watched some more surfers.
South of Coogee, the walkway follows along the cliffs until a section where it suddenly ends and you have to walk up a road for 200 m, along 50 m and then down another road, almost back to where you were. It is a shame there is this discontinuity. Perhaps a ramp could be constructed around the offending house? Then the walkway descends to the rock platform. This part is only a low tide route – and with the high seas – it was off limits. So I climbed back up the stairs and then back up the road and took the high level route.
At the Jack Vanny Reserve at Maroubra I stopped and watched a Zeppelin fly past.
At Maroubra, it was close to lunchtime. I had set out earlier without breakfast, so thought it time to head home, so I jumped on a bus heading back to the city.
