Greenway Bird Survey – 9 April 2025

I took part in the bird survey along the Greenway, from Taberner’s Hill Light Rail Station to Hawthorne Light Rail Station. The group met at 7:30 am.

Here are some of the birds we saw –

It was fairly quiet this time at Taverners Hill.

Noisy Miner

Lower down on the path, we spotted a Spangled Drongo

Red Wattlebird

Magpie Lark

Now, near Marion St.

Superb Fairy-wren

Silvereye

A Great Egret was foraging in the canal –

And a Little Black Cormorant was hunting nearby –

And then we spotted a Striated Heron

It flew over to the other side when we got close.

The Little Black Cormorant

And more of the Striated Heron

There was a huge number of skippers

Further along, a White-faced Heron

Superb Fairy-wren

And we sere pleased to spot a Grey Fantail

Magpie

Welcome Swallow

As usual, the group finished with coffee at a nearby cafe.

After the survey, I walked back to Marion Street and caught a bus to Abbottsford to look for Bar-tailed Godwits.
