Bob and myself usually go for a bushwalk on Thursdays, and on this Thursday the forecast was not the best – rain. And a lot of it. We thought of canceling, but also thought that it could be a good opportunity to see some big waterfalls. The lure of big waterfalls won, so we headed up the mountains.

It turned out to be a very worthwhile trip. It was worth getting wet and cold in order to see some very powerful waterfalls.
On the way up the mountains, we stopped to take advantage of wet rock platforms to look for an Aboriginal engraving site we had heard about. It was quite good.
Here is an engraving on an emu –

There is another engraving here, but we could not work out what it was. It would have been nicety have brought a small brush with us to brush off the leaves.

We thought this was a kangaroo –

Up at Katoomba, it was quite misty. We walked out onto Reids Plateau, where we could shelter in this artificial cave –

The views, at first, were somewhat restricted.

And we could just make out a waterfall –

Then the mist cleared enough for us to see Katoomba Falls.

The waterfall was very spectacular.

Orphan Rock was just visible –

We then headed down to The Witches Leap.

At the halfway lookout, Katoomba Falls were very impressive.

We then climbed back up and walked around to the top of there creek at Katoomba Cascades –

Next, we visited the recently reopened Katoomba Falls Kiosk for a hot drink.
Then off to Blackheath. The rain radar showed the rain may ease in an hour or so, so we first visited the Heritage Centre, and then to Govetts Leap Lookout, where we had lunch in one of the picnic shelters.

The mist thad cleared a bit –

We could make out Govetts Leap –

We then headed down the track to Popes Glen.

We were keen to see Horseshoe Falls.

The views of Horseshoe Falls from the east side are a bit restricted.

We crossed the creek and climbed up to some vantage points on the west side. We could now get a good view of Govetts Leap –

And Horseshoe Falls.

Horseshoe Falls

Here you can see Govetts Leap and Horseshoe Falls.

And then back to Bob’s car.

Top walk. Thanks for sharing.
