I joined the Mudlarks for their early morning bird survey on their Cooks River. This month the survey was around the downstream “Wave Rock” circuit. The weather was fine but cold and not that many birds were seen.

Here are some of the birds we saw –
Masked Lapwing

Magpie Lark

Dusky Moorhen

Little Pied Cormorants

Magpie

Magpie Lark

Laughing Kookaburra

Welcome Swallows

Little Corella

Galah

Grey Butcherbird

This Masked Lapwing seemed very annoyed. One of the party Simin, later spotted it had a small chick nearby.

As usual, the survey finished with morning tea back at Ewen Park. I then walked up the Cooks River to Canterbury Road. Here are a few more birds I saw along the way –
Little Pied Cormorants

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Little Pied Cormorants
