Wolli Creek Kingfishers – 18 January 2026

I visited Wolli Creek Regional Park, near Earlwood, to spend more time photographing the nesting Sacred Kingfishers again. It was a good visit as the birds were quite active in bringing food to their nest.

Not long after I arrived, I heard a Sacred Kingfisher calling. When they have food in their beaks, they seem to use their “screaming” type call, rather than their contact/territorial call. Perhaps it is the only call they can make with a partly open beak?

I also think this is the male. It then visited the nest.

The food, a skink, was not delivered.

After some more calling, it looked like the food had been given to the female parent.

It was now delivered to the nest.

It landed nearby.

A bit later it came back with an insect.

And it was delivered to the nest.

And a bit later, it had caught a spider.

And another delivery.

It was nice to quietly watch these birds feeding their nestlings.
