Birds at Tempe Wetlands – 7 November 2018

It was a wet day, so I thought a short visit to the local wetlands would be a suitable activity.  I managed to spot a few birds, but often had to photograph them under an umbrella.

Here are some of the birds I saw –

Reed Warbler

I could hear the call of Reed Warblers at a few spots, but they are hard to photograph – often obscured by reeds.

Superb Fairy-wren

Always a few of these around the wetlands.

Spotted Pardalote

I know the location of a nest hole near the path. If you wait quietly nearby, you often see the birds.  When they visit the nest, the usually perch on a nearby shrub, and then spend a while looking around to make sure it is OK to go into the nest. This is a good opportunity to photograph them.

This is the female of the pair.

The next pictures show the male. he is taking food into the hole. To feed chicks or to feed his mate?

And some of the other birds –

Australasian Grebe

Wattlebird chicks
