Nature at Oatley Park – 26 October 2019

This was another very pleasant day wandering around Oatley Park with my camera. I saw quite a few birds and also some nice orchids.

I started by visited the wetlands at Lime Kiln Bay. I saw a nice lot of Chestnut Teal chicks.

There was also a Little Pied Cormorant.

I then walked around the track on the west side of the wetlands. The flowers were beautiful. Here are some –

And a juvenile Crimson Rosella –

I also found number of orchids. I spotted two separate patches of Beard Orchids –

And also some large Flying Duck Orchids –

And there were a few nice birds. A Striated Thornbill –

And a group fo Variegated Fairy-wrens.

A few of them were hiding in the vegetation. I waited patiently to see if they would coma out. They did eventually.

I then crossed the bridge and start walking up the road that goes up to the point. On the way I spotted a Butcherbird with a young chick.

And also a nesting Tawny Frogmouth that I have seen before. This time it looks like it is hiding a chick.

On the track around the point, I spotted another cluster of Beard Orchids.

And a Hoverfly.

And, p near the lookouts I saw some more birds – a Black-faced Cuckooshrike –

And some more Variegated Fairy-wrens –

I then went back down to the bridge and went back the way I had come on the west side of the creek past the Lime Kiln Bay Wetlands. More Striated Thornbills –

On a previous trip, I had seen a pair of Kingfishers pecking a nest hole in a termite nest. I found several holes in the termite nest – but could not tell if they were being used for Kingfisher nests.

I also found a different cluster of Beard Orchids.

Back at the Wetlands there were  a number of Water Dragons around. Here are some –

And the Little Pied Cormorant was still there.
