I got back pretty early from Royal National Park and so decided to make another visit to Sydney Park in the late afternoon.
This time I was a bit more fortunate. I spotted a Latham’s Snipe fairly early. Then I ran into another hird photographer – Nick, and he was later joined by Lorne, who knows the birds at the park very well. They were on the track of a Lewin’s Rail. They spotted the Lewin’s Rail while I was on the far side of the pool, and by the time I had walked around, it had disappeared. But I was at least happy to see the Snipe. Here are some more photos –
Lorne gave me some good tips on observing the Bailon’s Crake, another bird I was after. We did not spot it that session however. Here are some of the other birds we did spot –
Australian Reed Warbler
Australasian Darter
Welcome Swallow
Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo
