Greenway Bird Survey – 10 February 2021

Another early start for the Greenway Bird Survey with the Inner West Environment Group, between Taverners Hill light rail station and Hawthorne light rail station along the Greenway. It was a bit dark and gloomy and a lot of the birds were a bit quiet.

At Taverners Hill, we did not see too many of the usual birds – Honeyeaters and Silvereyes. But there were a lot of Noisy Miners in one tree –

We watched this White-faced Heron swoop down to the water in the Hawthorne Canal and grab a Cicada.

The Heron later dropped the cicada. Perhaps it was too old to eat?

Past Marion Street, one of the group, Michael, had recently seen a Sacred Kingfisher. We looked carefully for it, but it was not around. Here is a Willie Wagtail
