I spent a very pleasant day wandering along the Sassafras Gully Track looking for fungi and slime moulds. In started from the track at the end of Sassafras Gully Road ad walk down to Glenbrook Creek, then continued down to Perch Ponds and then back to Springwood Via Magdala Creek and Fairy Dell.
The fungi was very nice, not a huge amount was out, but I did find some interesting species. The track however had been hammered pretty badly from the recent spell of wet weather. There were a lot of fallen trees, especially just below the junction of the Victory Track and then a lot all along the section of Glenbrook Creek.
Here is some of the fungi I found on the way down to the Victory Track junction –
At one spot, I look out for a species of Gomphus. I found some old ones, and nearby some tiny ones –
I also found a few slime moulds –
Paradiachea cylindrica
At the Victory Track, I usually walk a short way upstream. I often find some Cordyceps along this section. Sure enough I found two species –
Ophiocordyceps robertsii
Drechmeria gunnii
Puffball – Lycoperdon subincarnatum
Cyptotrama asprata
Lactarius clarkeae
The next lot are fungi found between the Victory Track junction and the Lagoon at Glenbrook Creek.
Boletellus sinapipes
Clavulina subrugosa
Drechmeria gunnii
Russula lenkunya
Rimbachia cf. bryophila
Clavaria zollingeri
Clavulinopsis fusiformis
Microglossum viride
Clavulinopsis amoena
Urnula campylospora
Clavulinopsis sulcata
Geoglossum cookeanum
Entoloma viriscens
Hygrocybe miniata
Perhaps Cystolepiota sp.
Entoloma sp.
Discinellus terrestris
Perhaps Trogia sp. But does not seem to have the interconnected gills.
And there were some slime moulds –
Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa
Paradiachea cylindrica
Here is a nice rapid in Glenbrook Creek –
Juts below the Lagoon, I found some nice Ascomycota –
And I also spotted a couple of examples of a polypore. I have now seen this unidentified species growing in this same location for quite a few years. It grows in soil (or on rock)
I didn’t see too much on the way down Glenbrook Creek, nor the lower section of Magdala Creek. Further upstream I found some nice Ramaria sp.
And I was on the lookout for some Hydnellum sp. I had seen tiny ones on my previous visit. Sur enough, it was now a lot larger –
Continuing upstream –
Russula sp.
Lactarius clarkeae
I am not sure what this one is –
Clavulinopsis sulcata
Hydnum repandum
Weeping Polypore, perhaps Postia sp.
Perhaps Tricholomopsis rutilans –
Strobilomyces sp.
It had been a very worthwhile outing.
Incredible photos. I’d also adore to explore this area so would the mushrooms be out still this weekend Sat 10th of April ?
Yes – could be a lot out
