Lane Cove Valley and Terrys Creek Nature Walk – 30 March 2021

This was a repeat of my usual walk from Thornleigh down the Great North Walk track along the Lane Cove River to Browns Waterhole and then out to Eastwood via Terrys Creek.

Along the way, I found an interesting array of fungi, slime moulds and birds. On track down from Thornleigh Oval to the river via Lorna Pass, I found a few Entoloma viriscens

Here some more fungi from the first part of the walk –

Russula rosea

Clavulinopsis sulcata

Unknown species –

Cantherellus concinnus

A large Polypore on a log –

Oudemenseilla gigaspora

And some slime moulds. Here is some Lycogala epidendrum

Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa

Arcyria sp.

And here are some of the birds. First a Brown Cuckoo-dove –

I spotted s second one a bit further along –

White-throated Treecreeper

Golden Whistler

Grey Fantail

Golden Whistler

Eastern Yellow Robin

At Browns Waterhole, I walked downstream for another 20 minutes to look for some fungi that may be out. On the way I saw a few nice Greenhood Orchids

And here is a Lichenomphalia chromacea

Russula rosea

I was looking for certain polypores. Near where they often appear was some Trumpet Fungi – Craterellus cornucopioides

I ddi find a very small polypore. I will have to see if it develops into anything.

Back at Browns Waterhole for lunch, I spotted a Kingfisher, but it was too fast for photos. Here is a Water Dragon

Along Terrys Creek, I ddi not find that much fungi out. Here is a White-browed Scrubwren

Here is a Polypore –

And Dogs Vomit Slime Mould – Fuligo septica –

Further upstream, I did spot a Powerful Owl

And there are two species of slime mould on this log –

And I was also on the lookout for Helvella fibrosa. I found some in spot where I had seen them last year –

I don’t know what this species is –

I think these ones are Trogia sp.

Pluteus lutescens

Polypore –

Bolete –

Omphalotus nidiformis

And I am not sure what this is –
