This was a really good day out, despite some rain, I saw a lot of nice fungi at three different locations. I linked up these locations be walking from Chatswood Station to Macquarie Park Metro Station.
Ferndale Park
The first location was Ferndale Park at Chatswood. When I arrived, it was threatening to rain, so I look around quickly to see what fungi was out. After an hour or so, it said start raining, so I had to suspend my photography. I had almost finished, so had a quick look around and then moved off.
Here is some that I found –
Hygrocybe reesiae
And now for the red waxcaps. Identification here is tricky as a lot of them were very small and not fully developed.
Hygrocybe sp.
Hygrocybe cantherellus
These ones with their high decurrent gills look like Hygrocybe lanecovensis –
These may be Hygrocybe cantherellus –
I looked for the large clusters of Hygrocybe aurantipes that I had seen on my previous visit. Most had now fallen to bits. Here are some that remained –
Hygrocybe apricosa
Humidicutis sp.
This is the Ferndale Park – green – pink waxcap. I could only find one.
Camarophyllopsis sp.
I think this may be Pluteus sp.
Now for some corals.
Clavulinopsis fusiformis –
This may be Clavulinopsis amoena –
Clavulinopsis corallinorosacea –
Clavaria zollingeri –
Aurantiporus pulcherrimus –
And a Greenhood Orchid –
When it started raining, I looked around a bit more under my umbrella, then set off towards Blue Gum Reserve. On the way I passed a small picnic area, where I stopped and had a break under shelter.
Blue Gum Reserve
I found some very nice fungi out, but conditions were quite treacherous. The rain had made the rocks very slippery and the creek was up a bit making crossings difficult. Nevertheless the rain had stopped and I did manage to spot some nice fresh fungi.
Hygrocybe aurantiopallens –
Gliophorus graminicolor –
Humidicutis sp.
I think this may be the same as the Ferndale Park – Green – pink waxcap.
Hygrocybe anomala
These first ones look like Hygrocybe anomala var. anomala –
The next ones look like Hygrocybe anomala var. ianthinmarginata with their mauve tinge to the cap.
This may be Hygrocybe aprocosa –
And some corals, first Ramariopsis simplex –
Clavulinopsis fusiformis –
I then returned to the track and continued down the valley. On the way I found a nice large cluster of Hygrocybe austropratensis –
Coprinopsis atramentaria
Nearby I found some Hygrocybe aurantipes –
I walked down to the Lane Cove River and found a sheltered picnic table to have lunch. Then I started walking upstream. On the way I spotted some birds –
Yellow-faced Honeyeater
Superb Fairy-wren
Lane Cove Valley
Here is some of the fungi that I found further up the valley –
Cortinarius kioloensis –
Gymnopilus junonius –
Perhaps Inonotus albertinii –
Perhaps Ramariopsis kunzei –
The species I was mainly looking for were the patch of Gliophorus psittacinus I had seen on my previous visit. I soon found them –
And another waxcap in this spot – Hygrocybe austropratensis –
Clavulinopsis fusiformis –
Ramariopsis simplex –
Clavulinopsis sp. –
Ramariopsis sp. –
Ramariopsis sp. –
Perhaps Ramariopsis sp. –
I saw lots of these coming up. Perhaps Hypholoma sp. ?
Russula rosea –
Cortinarius archeri –
Ramaria xanthosperma var.australiana –
And one of many Corybas Orchids –
Despite the rain, this had been a very good day – a nice bushwalk and some great fungi, birds and orchids.
