The Tasmanian Arboretum – 24 April 2022

We had got off the boat from Melbourne and done some shopping and then visited my Sister and her husbands place at West Ulverstone. After leaving the bilk of our gear, we headed to the Tasmanian Arboretum to spend the rest of the day.

If you are visiting the Devonport region, its a great place to spend a few hours. The collection of trees are amazing, its a fantastic place to look for Platypus in the wild and it also has a pleasant atmosphere of peace and serenity.

We drove via Braddons Lookout, a place where I had often observed raptors on previous visits to this part of Tasmania. This time there were none, but we still had a fine view. Here we are looking at a distant Cradle Mountain.

From the lookout, it is not far to the Arboretum.

As soon as we arrived, we headed down to the ponds to look for platypus. We soon spotted one and then more. Patience is rewarded. If you wait quietly, the will come close.

We then wandered around, looking at the trees and the  resident birds.

We had lunch near the kiosk and wandered around a bit more in the afternoon.
