Florabella Pass – Pippas Pass Walk – 17 May 2015

Wendy had organised a nice walk in the Lower Blue Mountains from Warrimoo to Blaxland via Florabella Pass down to close to Glenbrook Creek and the climbing back out to Blackland via Pippas Pass.

In the party was Wendy, Digi Dave, Rob, Chantel, John, Chuin Nee, Jasper, Martin, Steffy and myself.

The first part of the walk goes down to a rainforest gully via a set of old stone steps. This is Florabella Pass. This area was burnt in a bushfire last year, but seems to be recovering OK. Then the track climbs up onto a ridge and drops into the same rainforest creek further downstream. It crosses the creek again, and then sidles along above the creek and then swings around above Glenbrook Creek.

The rainforest creek provides a good location to see fungi. And a bit was out despite the generally dry conditions.

We also found two species of orchid in flower –

Above Glenbrook Creek, you can turn off and look down an old metal ladder. This ladder is now quite unsafe! Many rungs have rusted away. Further along the track is a better side track down to Glenbrook Creek (and also a track to the St Helena Trail). We continued on the main track and then up Pippas Pass to find ourselves at the back of Blaxland Library.
