Walking near Kurnell (and Taren Point) – 12 January 2023

Valerie had been on the Greenway Bird Survey, and after it we had planned to meet Sue and head out to Kurnell for a walk along the coastal cliffs in Kamay – Botany Bay National Park.

Valerie drove us to the car park at Cape Solander, and then we set off south along the track towards Cape Baily. At first, it was a bit cloudy.

These cliffs are great for coastal landscapes.

Near Cape Baily, we looked for the resident Peregrine Falcons, and spotted one perched on the cliffs –

And walking back we spotted a Swamp Harrier hunting over the heath –

Here is one of the zawns, named – Blue Hole Hap –

On the way back home, we stopped off at Taren Point – where we visited the Woolooware Shared Pathway and The Taren Point Shorebird Reserve.

Grey Tattlers

Pied Oystercatchers

The tide was going down and exposing the oyster beds. Some of the Grey-tailed Tattlers flew over to start eating –

And there were some Silver Gulls with young chicks on the artificial island –

At the Taren Point Shorebird Reserve, we were surprised to see some Little Corellas out on the sand –

And a single Pied Oystercatcher was feeding –
