I joined the Tempe Birdos for their monthly bird survey. This month I was in the group surveying the Tempe Wetlands.
During most of the survey it was raining, so a lot of birds were under shelter in the vegetation. Here are some of the birds we saw –
Dusky Moorhen –
The one above is sitting on a nest. There we some chicks and juveniles in the lower pond –
Here is a female Australasian Figbird –
In the second pond, there was a Dusky Moorhen and a number of Pacific Black Ducks –
More Dusky Moorhen in the third pond –
And a frog –
Australian Reed Warbler –
Then we headed to Tempe Reserve to meet the other group that had been surveying there, and we had morning tea. A pleasant morning.
Brush Turkey group at Ford Park and Maria Reserve. At Christmas I saw three very healthy Brush Turkey Chicks at Ford Park (down from Dean Reserve at Strathfield South), they were fearless, picking at my shoes. A pair settled there about three years ago and is seen occasionally, they are obviously breeding successfully and are safe. A local told me he saw 11 in a group early in the morning (I saw six at one time). Still looking for the mound where they breed. (will have to talk to council to prevent damage and protect them).
