Wises Track Walk – 29 May 2023

This was another pleasant walk with the National Parks Association of NSW, and led by Brian Everingham. The plan was to walk out along Wises Track and keep a lookout for Orchids and Birds.

Malabar Headland – 28 May 2023

Birds on the Cooks River and Barton Park – 27 May 2023

After the Greenway Bird Survey, I was going to visit Valerie, and was accompanied by Simin. After a cuppa, Valerie joined me for a stroll down the Cooks River to Gough Whitlam Park. We were on the lookout for Kingfishers, but had no luck. At Gough Whitlam Park, I continued on by myself to Barton Park and spent a few hours there.

Ku-Ring-Gai Heritage Walk – 25 May 2023

Bob was back from an overseas holiday, and we were starting off our weekly bushwalks again. We were both keen to look for some Aboriginal engraving sites in Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park.

With some effort, we found three very good sites.

Birds at Barton Park – 24 May 2023

This was another afternoon trip to Barton Park, where I spent most of my time at Landing Lights Wetland. On recent visits to the park, I had failed to spot the currently resident Scarlet Robin. This time I finally had success. The bird flew up and perched near me.

I was also on the lookout for The Australian Spotted Crake. This visit, I heard it call, but did not see it. There were also some Brown Quails present (but not photographed).

Fungi at Hazelbrook – 23 May 2023

While I was at Hazelbrook seeing my sisters, we all went on short walk down a local gully – the North Waterfall Walk – the track that goes down to Horseshoe, Oakland and Burgess Falls. This is a pleasant walk with good fungi habitat.

More Sassafras Gully Fungi (Magdala Creek) – 22 May 2023

I was on my way to Hazelbrook to visit my sister and brother in law. And my other sister was also staying there on a short visit from Tasmania. On the way up the mountains, I decided to break my journey at Springwood and spend two hours visiting Magdala Creek. I found some good fungi out – but it was starting to dry out.

Sassafras Gully Fungi – 21 May 2023

After recently finding good fungi at Wolli Creek and Birdwood Gully, I decided to head to Springwood again and visit Sassafras Gully, hopefully before any fungi there got too dried out. On this visit I was accompanied by Sue. We found a fair amount of fungi out.

On this trip, we entered the valley via the track at the end of Sassafras Gully Road and walked as far as the Lagoon at Glenbrook Creek, where we had lunch, then we climbed out via the Wiggins Track. Continue reading →
