This was an interesting bushwalk with Bob in the Springwood area. We started off down one of the tracks to Sassafras Gully. On the way down, we diverted off the track briefly to looks at an old stone cross.

After taking part in the bird survey with the Mudlarks along the Cooks River, I walked to Hurlstone Park Station and travelled by train and bus to Maroubra Beach. I then went out into Malabar Headland National Park.
Its a pleasant place to spend some time. I was entered to see if any whales were around, and also to see if I could spot the Peregrine Falcons and see if they were breeding again. I spent a nice early morning wiht the Mudlarks helping to survey the birdlife along the Cooks River. on this survey we met at the Lang Street Bridge at 7:30 am and surveyed downstream on the south back, then crossed over and surveyed along the north back – through the golf course and the Dibble St Wetland.
At the bridge at Lang St, we saw a nice Spoonbill.

Wendy had organsed a walk to the Red Rocks above the Capertee Valley. It was a long weekend, but as it turned out we only walked for two days. This was the first overnight bushwalk I had been on for a long time. It was great to be outdoors on an overnight trip – but also very sad to see so much destruction from the bushfires.
We set off from Newnes and walked up the valley of Little Capertee Creek. The whole valley had been badly burnt out, but it was quite green due to regrowth. We followed a faint track – but going was slower than usual because of the bushfire regrowth. It was hard to work out where the track was. Continue reading

Keith and Chris had organised a walk from Wisemans Ferry up Devines Hill on the Old Great North Road. The party, as well as Keith and Chris was Rosie, Bob and myself.
The meeting time at Wisemans Ferry was 12 noon. I was heading up with Bob so we decided to leave early and visit some Aboriginal sites close to the Wisemens Ferry Road. My recent fungi walks have been very good, and I have been fortunate to see a lot of colourful species. I decided to head up to Hazelbrook and Lawson to see what was out there. In terms of fungi it turned out to be a rather poor trip – I did not find too much out. Conditions seemed quite dry compared to lower down at Springwood.
I first went to the Terrace Falls area. I only found one waxcap – a rather old Porpolomopsis lewelliniae. Continue reading
