As it had been so dry, I had not not bothered to visit Sassafras Gully to look for fungi for a fair while. But recently, there had been some rain – although the mid mountain had had far less than the coastal fringe, so I was not that hopeful that much fungi would be out.

I spent and interesting and enjoyable day wandering along the Two Valleys Track from Bexley North to Tempe, and then a short trip to Tempe Wetlands. I took two cameras – one with a telephoto lens for birds and one with macro lens for fungi.
The fungi was not great, but reasonable. The birds were quite good. I didn’t find much in the first section, so proceeded to the open grassy area where I took some time photographing to Welcome Swallows. Here is a selection – Continue reading
At present, quite a few planets are easily seen from Sydney – all quite early in the evening. These are Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn – all visible at dusk, and a bit later Mars appears.

In the early evening, I went outside, and just using my camera and telephoto lens (with teleconverter) I took a few hand held shots of three of the planets. I think the results are quite reasonable given the little trouble I went to to get the photos. Continue reading

I had visited Darling Mills Creek back in 2015 (see here). I can remember before that trip – Bob pointing out Darling Mills Creek while driving along the M2 and he mentioned that there was a walking track along it. So, not long after that I had explored the track. But it turns out, Bob had not walked down the creek, so I thought it about time for another trip. The weather forecast was not the best, so we thought a more local trip would suit.

It was a wet day, but I was keen to get outdoors, so I caught a train to Bondi Junction and then a bus to Dover Heights. I got off near the Rodney Reserve and walked to it from Military Road.
On the way, I had been checking the weather radar. There was some rain, and it looked like a shower would pass over the area soon. I looked out to sea for whales – without spotting any. A few Fairy Wrens were closer – so I took a few photos of them. Continue reading
I made a third visit to Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside with the principal goal of getting more photos of the pair of Azure Kingfishers that I had observed on my previous visit.
When I arrived at the Reserve, around 8:30 am, there was a nice atmosphere – the sun was shinning through some mist that often carpets the Western Suburbs at dawn. The energy of the sun was slowly dispersing the mist. It was certainly nice to watch. Continue reading
I headed down to Bola Creek in Royal National Park with Digi Dave to look for and photograph any fungi that was out. We spent the morning in the Bola Creek area, then later, in the afternoon headed back to Waterfall and walked from their to the Kingfisher Pool in Heathcote National Park. A pleasant day out.

This was another trip from Bexley North to Tempe via the Two Valleys Track along Wolli Creek. I was hoping for a lot of fungi to be out, but I also carried the camera I usually use for bird photos. I think I ended up with more birds than fungi.
