After visiting Tempe in the morning, I decided to visit Wolli Creek in the afternoon. I only went to the middle part of the valley – between Bardwell Park and Turrella.
I caught a bus to Earlwood, and walked down to Girrahween Park. On the way I looked for orchids – I had seen some in that area last year. I could not see any near Girraween Park, but little bit down the Two Valleys Track I did spot some coming up. They should be in flower later in the month. Continue reading
After having a most interesting day observing birds the day before, but missing seeing or photographing a particular bird, I again headed down to the Tempe Wetlands early in the morning.
Buff-banded Rail
My main objective was to try and spot the Rail that I had missed the day before. It had been seen by quite a few members of the Tempe Birdos, but no one had photographed it, so its identification was not certain. Continue reading
Early in the morning I joined the Tempe Birdos at the Tempe Wetlands for their monthly bird survey. It was nice to observe a reasonable number of birds at the Wetlands.

After a nice ferry ride to the Zoo, the day before, I thought that another ferry trip would be pleasant. So I caught the ferry to Manly and then set out to walk around North Head.
From the Ferry terminal, I walked up the main street to Manly Beach, and then off on the Coastal Path to Shelly Beach. This short section is rather urban walking but there are often lizards and birds to see – Continue reading

This was a very pleasant photo walk with David Hufton along the Curra Moors Track in Royal National Park. Quite a few wildflowers were out on the Moors and also the sea was rough along the coast – nice conditions for photos.

This map was produced by members of Sydney University Rover Crew in 1961 and published in 1962. There were subsequently 4 editions of the map. Thanks to Dr Geoff Ford, former SURC member and the initiator of the Gundungura Project for making scanned copies of of the map available for the first three editions. Continue reading
This was supposed to be a photographic storm chasing trip to Balls Head. But, by the time I got there, the storm had passed over. However, I still enjoyed a nice walk around the headland.
I travelled by train to Waverton and walked the short distance from the station to the headland. At the nursery near the Coal Loader is a large Aboriginal engraving of a whale in the sandstone. It is worth looking for. Continue reading
This was supposed to be a bushcare day at Barrenjoey, but it was called off due to rain. Later in the day, the rain had eased off a lot, so I rode my bike down to the Cooks River to see what birdlife was out.
I started up the river at the Boat Harbour and spent some time watching the Pelicans. Continue reading
I spent a very pleasant day on the Cooks River observing and photographing the birdlife between roughly Cup and Saucer Creek and the Alexandria Canal. I cycled between sites on the cycleway.

I started at the Dog Area near Canterbury and looked for the tawny Frogmouth family – no luck in finding them.
