I spent a few hours wandering along the Cooks River to what birds could be seen.
I could not spot either of the sets of Tawny Frogmouths that I had seen earlier. So I continued to the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands. Here I spotted two young chicks wandering cautiously along the mudflats. A parent, a Purple Swamphen was nearby watching the chicks. Continue reading
This was a pleasant and relaxing weekend in the Blue Mountains. I headed up with John, Chuin Nee and their young son Jasper. At Wentworth Falls, we met up with Su Li, Brent, Roscoe, Martin and Stephanie. Most of the party were going climbing at Sublime Point at Leura. I joined up with Martin, John and Jasper for a walk.
We started at Leura Cascades and then walked to the base of the First waterfall and then continued down to Leura Forest. Then we walked along Dardanelles Pass and then up the Giant Stairway to the top of the Three Sisters. The last part was along the Prince Henry Walk, which goes along the top of the cliffs to Leura Cascades. Continue reading

I had a second chance to visit the Sculpture By The Sea Exhibition. This time I met up with Sarah Jones and her young daughter Emily. This was on a stormy afternoon.
This was my first visit to Sculptures By The Sea. I arrived at Tamarama at dawn with my camera. I thought it was a good exhibition. Here is a selection of my photos. A larger set can be viewed on my gallery here.

Comet C/2012 K1 PanSTARRS is currently visible in Sydney from late at night to early morning. It is quite hard to see and is fading. I tried looking with binoculars without success. I also took some photographs of the bit of sky it is supposed to be in, and then processed those photos and looked for a smudge that could be the comet.
Can you spot the comet? Look for a very faint smudge, slightly left of middle, at about half height
With the Tawny Frogmouth chicks being the main attraction, I had invited some friends down to the river.

I went down with my camera after hearing about some Tawny Frogmouth chicks that can be seen.
They took a while to find – but I spotted two sets of Tawny Frogmouths. Each set consisted the parents and two chicks. I photographs them during the day – so the parents were asleep, not too high up in trees. Near them were the chicks. I think the chicks were quite special.
Both sets were along the Cooks River between Wardell Road and Canterbury Road. Continue reading
