The Greenway Bird Survey was on. It was not the normal Saturday morning for the Dulwich Hill section of the Greenway – it had been postponed a week due to bad weather. This proved to be worthwhile as we enjoyed beautiful weather.
The survey started off well, when we spotted a Tawny Frogmouth perched in a tree near where we meet outside Waratah Mills Light Rail Station.
And some of the birds we saw along the circuit –
New Holland Honeyeater
Brush Turkey
Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike
Red Wattlebird
Rainbow Lorikeet
Australasian Figbird
Grey Fantail
These small birds fly through the air very fast and scoop up flying insects.
Silvereye
Red Wattlebird
New Holland Honeyeater
These are not bad at catching insects to supplement their diet.
Magpie
As usual, the survey finished with coffee at a nearby cafe.
After that, I joined Simin to look for some Tawny Frogmouths on the Cooks River. Simin knew roughly where they would be and soon spotted them –
And nearby, a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo –
Thanks to Simin for this little side excursion.
