Another very hot day…. means another canyon. I was heading up the mountains with Bob and we decided to visit Whungee Wheengee Canyon near Mt Wilson.

Bob in an upper section of the canyon
This is an attractive canyon, but many sections are difficult to photograph as it is tricky to get your camera out in the spectacular sections which tend to be very wet. Also, on our visit, the lighting tended to be quite harsh making photography difficult.

Small Tongue Orchid – Cryptostylis leptochila
I was carrying a camera and tripod, but got my best photos of the canyon in the lowest of its five or so constrictions. This is the one below the two abseils, and can be much more easily visited on a lilo trip down Wollangambe Canyon.
But you cannot complain – its nice sending time in a magnificent canyon, and it is certainly a good refuge from the heat.
We met one other party in the canyon, just as we were doing the second of the two abseils. And we overtook them when they stopped for lunch at the Wollangambe junction.
On this trip, we didn’t climb out the close exit, instead swimming down Wollangambe Canyon and using the exit just past the Waterfall of Moss.
