Birds at Landing Lights Wetland and the Cooks River – 1 December 2020

Brian Everingham had organised a bird acting activity with the National Parks Association of NSW to look at birds at Landing Lights Wetland at Barton Park. In the party were Brian, Sue W, Sue B, Valerie, Deb, Ute, Janine, Vivienne, Allen and myself. We spent a nice morning wandering around looking at the birds, then I joined two of the participants Valerie and Sue B and Sue W for lunch at Gough Whitlam Park, and after that we checked out the Tawny Frogmouths.

At Landing Lights Wetland, there was not a huge abundance of birds. The main waders were a pair of Pied Stilts and their three chicks –

Nearby in the bush were some Superb Fairy-wrens

Here is a Silvereye

And a Golden-headed Cisticola

One of the New Holland Honeyeaters at Barton Park –

And there were a pair of Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes and their two chicks –

Thanks to Brian for leading the activity.

Valerie, Sue and myself then headed to the cafe at Gough Whitlam Park for lunch. WE then checked out the nearby nesting Tawny Frogmouths. The chick was facing the path and very awake.

At Younger Avenue, we could see no sign of any chicks.

Here is the female –

And then a visit to the Boat Harbour.
