Tasmania – Fungi at Castra Falls – 25 April 2024

The second fungi trip in North West Tasmania was to a favourite place to look for fungi – The Castra Falls circuit. Again, I was accompanied by my sister who spotted a lot of the fungi we found.

We started from the Silver Falls side. The waterfall almost had no flow. It has been quite dry in this part of Tasmania recently. But despite the dry conditions, a fair bit of fungi was observed. Here is some –

Rickenella fibula

Flammula velutipes

Polypore –

Ascocoryne sarcoides

Slime Mould – Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa

Cortinarius sp.

Clavulinopsis sulcata

Helotioum tasmanicum species complex

Perhaps Henningsomyces candidus

Clavulina tasmanica

Unknown –

Austropaxillus muelleri

Mycena nargan

Mycena sp.

Mycena sp.

Hypholoma fasciculare

Mycena interrupta

Artomyces austropiperatus

Xylaria castorea

Mycena interrupta

Xylaria castorea

Unknown –

Aleuria aurantia

Unknown –

Clavulina tasmanica

Cortinarius submagellanicus

Gloioxanthomyces chromolimoneus

These were growing on a moss covered log and were the only waxcapsd we saw on our visit.

Russula sp.

Flammulina velutipes

Russula sp.

Mycena sp.

Mycena kuurkacea

Entoloma sp.

Austropaxillus muelleri

Mycena interrupta

Clavulinopsis sulcata

Polypore –

We had a most fascinating visit to the circuit. Many thanks to my sister for driving out, and to the locals who maintain the tracks. Also to Genevieve Gates for some i.d’s.
