I joined the Sydney Fungal Studies Group, together with Wolli Creek Preservation Society for a field study in Wolli Creek Regional Park. We had find, but cold weather on the day, but the less up period had been dry, so not that much fungi was out, and what we did find was in poor condition.
After meeting at Girrahween Park, we set off down the track, keeping a lookout for fungi. We continued down to near the Flying Fox camp before returning to Girrahween Park for lunch.
Here is some of the fungi we found –
Russula sp.
Coprinellus disseminatus
Cortinarius sp.
Scleroderma cepa
Descolia recedens
Clavulina sp.
Greenhood Orchids in profusion (Pterostylis nutans)
Cuphophyllus austropratensis
Gliophorus graminicolor
Hypoxylon sp.
Scleroderma cepa
Inocybe sp.
Back at Girrahween Park –
The desiccated condition of a lot of the fungi makes identification difficult.
Many thanks to all those that came along and helped spot the fungi, and particular thanks to Cass Martiensen, NPWS Ranger in charge of the park for granting permission for the Field Study to go ahead. Also thanks to Peter and Susie from the WCPS for organising their members to attend.
