Birdwood Gully – Fungi, Orchids and Birds – 19 July 2024

I wanted to find out how the fungi was going at Birdwood Gully at Springwood. Recently I have found the fungi very poor in Sydney and I was wondering how the moister gullies of the Blue Mountains were going.

It turned out to be a fairly quiet short trip.

On the walk down, I found plenty of Greenhood Orchids.

Pterostylis nutans

Pterostylis grandiflora

But there was not much fungi out. Here is a patch of earth Tongues that I have photographed several months ago. These are robust!

Trichoglossum hirsutum

Here are a few of the waxcaps I did find –

Gliophorus graminicolor

Hygrocybe sp.

And where are a few birds –

New Holland Honeyeater

Grey Shrike-thrush

Eastern Spinebill

And one more orchid, I spotted on the walk back up to Poland Avenue –

Pixie Cap Orchid – Acianthus fornicatus
